On our recent trip to New York, Kingston College BTEC Business students had the opportunity to explore the fascinating and iconic Hershey’s chocolate store. The visit was both educational and enjoyable, offering a perfect blend of business insight and lots of free chocolate! One of the key highlights of the trip was the business talk delivered by a Hershey’s representative. It was tailored specifically for business students and gave us valuable insight into the company's marketing strategies, operations and USP.

We also had a tour of the Financial District, where we viewed the Federal Reserve Bank, The New York Stock Exchange, Wall Street and many more iconic buildings.  The students learned that The Federal reserve bank stores bars of gold for people all over the world and is transported by the bank to other countries.

We also visited the United Nations (UN) and sat in various conference rooms and learned how nations around the world, including the United Kingdom, contribute to the 17 sustainable goals of the UN which includes, no poverty, zero hunger, quality education and peace, justice and strong institutions along with other important goals. The students got to view the counter board showing the daily military expenditure worldwide which was at over $4.5B. One of the quotes that could be viewed on the walls of the UN was ‘The World is over-armed and peace is underfunded’.

Lecturer Jackie Monae shared: “I am so happy that I had the opportunity to take my students to New York. It was an extraordinary and amazing learning experience that will inspire students studying International Business, Marketing and also Finance to understand international business operations outside of the UK. It also gave them an insight into the cultural aspects of International businesses and how they operate.”
