What a fantastic conclusion to the Level 3 BTEC Fashion, Textile & Costume students work experience with Princess Alice Hospice! The PAH team were invited to see the final group designs in our TV Studio this week. Groups presented two original outfits alongside their mood boards & 3D window display boxes. Outfits were created from donated items from the charity that were refashioned, embellished & accessorized to create this runway/contemporary collection. Themes such as Jewel, Wildcard and Aquatic were used.
This live brief was created to help raise awareness of climate change and the environmental impact of fast fashion in our environment. How we should all: buy better, wear longer, buy less, donate, upcycle and buy reused!
The Princess Alice Hospice team have selected their winning designs, and they will shortly be displayed in their Kingston shop window (opposite John Lewis). There are five winning outfits from the Wildcard and Jewels groups. Well done guys!
Some of our Level 3 BTEC Photography students also gained work experience on this brief. They were involved with photographing the outfits in our Photography Studio. Beautifully captured images were created for the presentation and for future portfolios. This group will be continuing their work for the charity after Easter by helping collect a library of Kingston Community images.
A massive thank you to Princess Alice Hospice for working with us this year, and we are very excited to continue this partnership and grown more opportunities for our community of learners.
Feedback from Princess Alice Hospice.
"The creativity and technical skills on display were nothing short of exceptional. It was inspiring to see these students use their knowledge of textiles and repurposing to breathe new life into donated items that could have ended up in the bin. They've shown us that sustainable style is achievable and exciting!" Marine Knight, Campaign Manager (Marketing and Engagement)
“I'm really sorry that I couldn't make it yesterday and looking at this presentation I really wish I had. I'm blown away by the standard of the work. Amazing creativity and some great technical skills. It’s going to be hard deciding which ones go in the windows. A brilliant effort, well done to everyone involved.” Howard Bowles, Director of Retail
