A career in fashion is exciting, competitive and fast-paced. The career paths available can vary greatly and often intersect with other industries. Some fashion professionals are focused on the design, creation and styling of garments, while others work within the commercial end of the industry in sales or fashion merchandising roles. There is also a demand for fashion reporting, PR, photography and marketing.
Our Fashion students work in a fully equipped printed textile studio with industrial knitting machines in an environment that encourages an industrious and professional work ethic. Students also benefit from spacious pattern cutting and garment construction studios.
Students work in our dedicated state-of-the-art Creative Industries Centre and our talented students exhibit a range of their work at our end of year Summer Shows. Our short Summer Shows reel encapsulates the talent, vibrancy and range of courses we offer!
“I chose Kingston College not only for its remarkable reputation but also for the amount of support and diversity within the college itself.” Rhenice Ottey, BTEC Fashion, Textiles & Costume
"I chose to study a Fashion BTEC as I was always interested in the Fashion industry and wanted something more specialised rather than just doing A Levels. This course provided me with the insight into the fashion industry as well giving as me a headstart on the skills and experience I would need for that. There were no limitations to what we could design and produce giving us room to find out our own style. I learnt not only how to design but to construct my own garments using industrial machines and techniques. The course doesn’t only focus on the design and making side of the industry but it also teaches us about marketing in the fashion industry.
Not only has the support given by the College and lecturers helped me find out what I want to do next, they have also helped me plan how to do it."
“For me, fashion has no boundaries, expectations or rules; it’s a form of identity through art where there are no wrong answers. This is what inspired me to do a BTEC, I was able to go outside the box with my ideas and explore a range of different media and techniques. With my final grade being determined through my coursework, I could demonstrate my creative abilities practically to my tutors, as well as the other qualities I’ve learnt along the way such as time management and problem solving. I chose Kingston College not only for its remarkable reputation but also for the amount of support and diversity within the college itself.”
Rhenice gained a Triple Distinction* on her course, the equivalent to 3 A* at A Level.
Hospitality Supervision & Leadership - Level 3 Diploma
Jerome says: "I chose to study at Merton College because it has excellent facilities for my Hospitality & Catering course. The College is very welcoming and my tutors are very supportive. As part of my course, I deliver a service to customers that visit the Taste Restaurant and I really enjoy interacting with them. We regularly host events and I like working as a team to co-ordinate these events. For example, we are often visited by members of the local community who come to the restaurant for lunch."
Once Jerome has completed his Diploma, he intends to study a Higher Level Apprenticeship in Hospitality and work for a major restaurant chain. His ultimate goal is to own a chain of restaurants one day.
