Safeguarding

On 8th and 9th July, Kingston College proudly hosted a two-day graduation ceremony for over 900 adult ESOL learners, marking a joyful celebration of their dedication and success. The event was honoured by the presence of the Mayor of Kingston, who was presented with a beautifully compiled cookbook, featuring recipes shared by students that reflect the rich diversity of cultures within the ESOL community.

ESOL students Asma’a and Roya compered the ceremony with warmth and enthusiasm, welcoming the Mayor and guiding the audience through the proceedings. Graduates were presented with certificates and expressed heartfelt thanks to their tutors. The celebrations concluded with students sharing food from their home countries - adding a vibrant cultural flourish to an inspiring and unforgettable occasion.

Caroline Streliaev-Pivetta, Deputy Head of School, said: “I couldn’t be prouder of our students and all they’ve accomplished this year. Many have overcome significant personal challenges, yet they've shown incredible determination, resilience and commitment to their learning. Their success is a true reflection of their strength and dedication, and it's been a privilege to support them on this journey. I’d also like to thank their incredible teachers - I couldn’t be more delighted with the passion, commitment and care they bring to their work every single day. Their support and belief in our students make achievements like this possible.”

ESOL Lecturer, Dee Moran, said: “Our ESOL students warmly embraced the concept of making a cookbook of recipes from all around the world. Their recipes came flying in for printing - each page more delicious than you could ever imagine! The Mayor was clearly delighted and informed me that the cookbook will be placed in the Mayoral suite and that whenever a dignitary comes to visit, a recipe will be selected from our ESOL cookbook and served to the guests visiting our borough. What an honour!”

A ‘Special Student’ prize in memory of former ESOL student, Fawzi Adam, was awarded to Level 2 ESOL student, Leonard.
