This year’s student Christmas Card competition at Kingston College embraced the theme “Winter Light”, inspiring creativity and innovation among our talented BTEC in Graphic Design students.

Working collaboratively, students began by brainstorming ideas in teams before developing their individual concepts. Over a two-week period, they transformed initial thumbnail sketches into stunning digital designs using a mix of hand-drawn illustrations and industry-standard tools such as Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Techniques included colour editing, texture and pattern creation, and advanced layering and blending processes.

The competition culminated in an exciting presentation at the Creative Industries Centre, where students showcased their final designs to Peter Mayhew-Smith and John O’Shea from the Principal’s Group. After careful consideration, five winners were selected from our first-year BTEC National Diploma in Graphic Design cohort: Lilly, Ibrahim, Shriya, Tariq and Richard.

Alison Richards, Lecturer in Graphic Design, commented: “The students demonstrated exceptional creativity and technical skill. This competition was a fantastic opportunity for them to apply their learning to a real-world brief and showcase their talent.”

Congratulations to all the students for their hard work and inspiring designs!
