Awards Report by Student Community Officer, Elliot Darko:
Four exceptional Kingston College students have been recognised as Outstanding Achievers in this year’s Jack Petchey Awards, celebrating their dedication, resilience and positive impact within the College community.
Idman, from the ESOL programme, has demonstrated remarkable progress and commitment throughout her studies. After completing ESOL Entry Level 2 and starting GCSE Maths from scratch, Idman achieved outstanding results. Alongside her academic success, she has shown a strong dedication to supporting others, sharing her experiences to inspire fellow students. This year, Idman returned to speak to another ESOL group as a motivational speaker, encouraging learners on their own journeys. She is a fantastic role model who embodies determination, positivity and a genuine desire to help others succeed.
Rhiannon, a first year BTEC Level 3 Applied Science student, has been recognised for her resilience and personal growth. Despite facing challenges with anxiety and situational mutism, Rhiannon has transformed her attendance and is now achieving Distinctions in her coursework. Her willingness to give back is equally inspiring - volunteering to support anxious students in the next cohort, demonstrating kindness, empathy and leadership.
Second year BTEC Level 3 Applied Science student, Mahtab, achieved second place in a national science competition - an outstanding accomplishment and reflects Mahtab's dedication, ambition and perseverance. Alongside balancing significant external commitments, Mahtab has also maintained outstanding attendance and commitment to her studies throughout the year. Her hard work, resilience and drive to succeed, while also serving as a positive example to others within the School community has been recognised among her peers and teachers.
BTEC Health & Social Care student, Diana, has been a highly valued member of KC Active, demonstrating consistent attendance at sessions over the past two years and showing genuine commitment to the project. She regularly goes above and beyond by helping staff with setting up and taking down sessions without ever needing to be asked. Diana is always supportive of other students, helping them feel welcome and included, while actively encouraging female students to get involved in sport and physical activity through her role as a This Girl Can ambassador within the College. Her positive attitude, excellent attendance and willingness to support others led to her being selected as one of only 20 volunteers for the 2026 AoC Sport National Championships. Overall, Diana is a real credit to the College and an excellent role model for her peers.
The Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme recognises and celebrates the contributions of young people aged 11–25 across London and Essex. The awards highlight individuals who have shown determination, improvement, leadership or a positive attitude, rather than simply academic success. Winners receive recognition within their college or organisation, along with funding to support further opportunities for themselves or their peers, helping to inspire confidence and continued personal development.
Congratulations to Idman, Rhiannon, Mahtab and X on this well‑deserved recognition - truly inspiring achievements.
