Safeguarding

As part of Green Week (20–24 April) and in celebration of World Earth Day on 22 April, Merton College invested £800 in a new Green Planting Initiative at our Merton campus to help enhance the natural environment across our site.

With the support of Ryan from CJB Contractors, a gardening and grounds maintenance business, our ESOL 16–18 and Supported Learning students and staff planted a range of plants to boost biodiversity, enhance green spaces and support a healthier, more sustainable campus. The plants were chosen for their biodiversity and sensory value. The  flower beds outside the Merton College canteen were chosen for the new planting, so that more students and staff can enjoy the space.

Thanks to Ryan for installing a post with bird boxes, bug hotel and butterfly barn into the flower bed. They make a huge difference to the whole space. And a big thank you to the students and staff who participated in the project, the project brought them all together and will continue to do so as they will be looking after the space in future.
