On Monday 29th June South Thames College students collaborated with Our Roehampton’s Community Garden Project and Baily Garner Construction to design and build a series of accessible wooden garden planters for the Roehampton community garden. The project provided a real‑world construction experience that strengthened students’ practical skills while contributing to a meaningful local initiative.
Under the supervision of Baily Garner’s construction team and a South Thames College tutor, students worked through the full build process, from planning and measuring to cutting, assembling, and finishing the planters. Throughout the project, learners deepened their understanding of workplace health and safety, applying safe working practices, correct tool handling, and site awareness in a live environment.
The collaboration not only enhanced students’ technical competence and confidence but also delivered high‑quality planters that will support inclusive gardening activities for Roehampton residents. The project stands as a strong example of community partnership, industry engagement, and hands‑on learning that benefits both students and the wider community.
