After excelling on our BTEC Travel with Aviation, Eva is preparing for the next stage of her academic journey at one of the UK's leading universities. Achieving outstanding results of D*D*D*, she credits the course's industry-focused learning, exciting travel opportunities and supportive tutors with helping her develop the confidence, knowledge and time management skills needed to succeed. From attending major industry events and overseas trips to building lifelong friendships, Eva made the most of every opportunity during her time at Kingston College.
Why did you choose to study a BTEC and why did you choose Kingston College?
I chose to do a BTEC at Kingston College because I had learned that they offered a Travel and Tourism course, which was exactly what I wanted to pursue as it was closely linked to Geography, the subject I did best in at GCSE. Instead of doing two other subjects that may not have been as closely linked to Geography at A Level, I decided that a BTEC was the best choice for me. I also enjoyed the way BTEC allowed me to complete my coursework over a period of time, which taught me that time management and active recall were incredibly important.
What are your plans after you finish your course?
After finishing my BTEC Travel and Tourism and Aviation course, I accepted an offer to study at Lancaster University on their BSc (Hons) Business Management (Study Abroad) for the next four years.
Favourite part of your course?
One of my favourite parts of the course was how industry-focused it was. A lot of the experiences and opportunities we had were directly linked to the Travel and Tourism industry. We went on different trips to places like the World Travel Market, the Newmarket Holidays building, Thorpe Park, as well as travelling abroad to Amsterdam and Salou. These trips helped me get a better understanding of how the Travel and Tourism industry actually works and how much it is depended on. They also helped me build the confidence to go to places myself and make new connections at these events.
Any amazing tutors or met great new friends?
All the tutors I had were amazing especially Jordan, Mateo and Chloe, they gave me opportunities to go on useful trips, such as visiting Newmarket Holidays and plenty of advice for what I could do after the course like university. All of my tutors were also great at explaining things and helping with any coursework that I may have been struggling with. I also made lots of new friends who I will definitely be keeping in contact with.
Any advice to those thinking about applying for your course?
My advice to anyone thinking about applying for the course is to have at least some knowledge of Geography and make sure to work on managing your time effectively, so you don’t end up having a lot of assignments due during the same week. Another piece of advice is to ask your tutors for anything you need. They are there to support you and will make sure you get opportunities that can help you achieve what you want to do in the future, so don’t be afraid to ask.
