Why did you choose Kingston College and what attracted you to a BTEC?
I heard that Kingston College has a good reputation compared with other colleges around the neighbourhood. I wanted to do something different rather than just studying everything and then doing it in an exam. With a BTEC, I was able to learn day-to-day things and develop practical knowledge and skills along the way.
What are your plans after you finish your course?
I am starting a BSc (Hons) Cyber Security degree with The Open University, as it gives me the opportunity to study at my own pace while also working. I am also currently preparing myself for the CompTIA A+ certifications.
What have you enjoyed most about your course?
I really enjoyed my course, I got to make new friends and had really good teachers who were all very helpful throughout my studies. One of my teachers was especially helpful, not only with academics but also with guiding me through freelancing and website creation.
What skills have you developed during your time here?
I developed my social skills a lot, as well as my time management and how to approach exams in a smart way. I also developed many technical skills. My course prepared me for my freelancing work as well as my university studies. I learned website development from my first year and now I officially work as a Website Manager for St James Church in New Malden. I also manage their Google Workspace, where I developed my knowledge of cloud computing. I also worked at the college during the summer holidays to gain work experience and worked at Kingston Library, where I helped the local community.
What are your long-term career goals?
Career-wise, I want to become a Cyber Security Analyst.
What would you say to someone thinking about studying your course?
I would highly recommend it. If you ever feel lost, ask for help and never be shy about asking questions. The teachers are always willing to help you.
