South Thames College Level 3 Year 1 students recently took part in a series of university subject taster visits, giving them the opportunity to explore degree options, experience university-level learning and gain valuable insight into student life.

The programme was designed by the Careers Adviser in collaboration with our university partners to help students understand the progression opportunities available within their subject areas while building confidence about their future educational and career choices.

Students from Art and Design visited UAL Chelsea College of Arts, where they explored graduate work and their specialist facilities. IT students travelled to Kingston University to take part in practical computing activities and learn about careers in Cyber and AI. Music students visited BIMM University, gaining an insight into studying within the music industry and experiencing individual coaching from their expert staff, culminating in an outstanding performance.

The Criminal Law Pathway students attended a taster day at Oxford Brookes University, where they explored degree-level legal studies and participated in a Moot Courtroom role play. Business students visited Roehampton University, learning more about business-related degree programmes and the wide-ranging opportunities available within the sector. Meanwhile, Media students travelled to Ravensbourne University London, experiencing its innovative facilities and creative approach to digital media education.

During each visit, students worked with university academics on interactive workshops and received guidance from student ambassadors, who shared their experiences of university life, accommodation, study expectations and extracurricular opportunities.

The programme was a great success, helping our students broaden their horizons, raise their aspirations and develop a clearer understanding of the exciting higher education opportunities available to them after college.

Oxford Brookes University representative commented: " It was fantastic to see the students come alive when they put on their gowns, stood at the lecterns, and presented their arguments. They had clearly thought out their arguments and also considered their opponents' points as well.  We hope to see many of them back in our Oxford Brookes University moot court as law students in the coming years!"
