Carshalton College Media students were privileged to take part in an inspiring interview with Dr Yuliia Shyshatska, a powerful example of resilience, leadership and determination.
Dr Shyshatska shared her remarkable journey after being forced to leave Ukraine due to the war. Facing language barriers, cultural change and personal loss, she spoke honestly about rebuilding her life and career in the UK from the ground up. Her story of perseverance led her from starting again in entry-level roles to becoming Director of Academic Operations at the International Humanitarian College London.
The interview was led by Media student Vadim, who is also Ukrainian. This shared background created a deeply personal and meaningful conversation, adding authenticity and emotional depth to the discussion.
As part of the Media Department’s Female Figures series, the project gave students invaluable real-world journalism experience while celebrating the achievements of inspiring women. Dr Shyshatska’s story encouraged students to reflect on themes of identity, ambition and resilience in the face of adversity.
We are extremely grateful to Dr Shyshatska for her openness and generosity. Her willingness to share her experiences made this interview both impactful and unforgettable for everyone involved.
