Andrii achieved D*D*D*, equivalent to 3 A* grades at A Level, on our BTEC in Graphic Design and has accepted a place to study BA (Hons) Graphic Branding and Identity at UAL. He says that “From the beginning, Kingston College felt warm, welcoming and supportive.”
Why did you choose your course and Kingston College?
I went to a lot of open days when deciding on my next steps after school, but from the very beginning, Kingston College felt warm, welcoming and supportive. The staff and students were friendly, and I could see that it was a place where people genuinely wanted to help you succeed. I was passionate about design from an early age, and the Graphic Design course at Kingston College really stood out because of the wide range of creative projects and the opportunity to build a professional portfolio. I also liked that the course focused on practical skills and preparing students for the creative industry.
What attracted you to studying a BTEC rather than A Levels?
I chose to study a BTEC because I prefer learning through practical work and real-life projects rather than only preparing for exams. Graphic Design is a creative subject, so having the opportunity to work on briefs, develop a portfolio and improve my skills over time suited my learning style much better. I was also attracted to the work experience opportunities that Kingston College offers, as they allow students to gain valuable industry experience and understand what it is like to work as a designer. I believe this hands-on approach has helped me become more confident, creative and prepared for university and future employment.
What are your plans after you finish your course?
After completing my course, I plan to study at the University of the Arts London (UAL) on the BA (Hons) Graphic Branding and Identity at their London College of Communication (LCC) campus, where I can continue developing my skills and knowledge in graphic design. My long-term goal is to build a successful career in the creative industry and work my way up to becoming a Senior Graphic Designer and, possibly, in the future, become a tutor or lecturer so I can pass on the knowledge, skills and experience I have gained and help inspire others to pursue creative careers.
Why would you recommend Kingston College to others?
A place where people help and guide you towards success and achieving your goals. Apart from providing a great learning experience, the college staff genuinely care about each and every student. A special thank you to Alison and Nicky for all their support and guidance.
What are you most proud of achieving?
I’m most proud of understanding the principles of design at a professional level and being able to apply them to my own projects. It has helped me develop my skills, become more confident in my work and understand how to approach design in a more professional way.
