Rachelle graduated this year, achieving a Distinction, the highest grade possible. Here she talks about her time at Kingston College and her hopes for the future:
“I chose Kingston College because it was the only college around that offered the two year Diploma in Policing – I hope to join the Met Police on their Constable Degree Apprenticeship with a long term goal of becoming a homicide detective. I was also attracted to the fact that I wouldn’t have to sit exams at the end of the two years as it’s all coursework based.
“My tutors were very helpful in giving me the resources and support necessary to gain the highest grade possible - Distinction - in all units. I have enjoyed learning about the different roles within the police as well as different aspects of policing, including the Legislation surrounding policing and how the government influences the police in many ways. Learning some of the insights into how the police is run and is being developed, including stop and search, has been highly interesting and will definitely be useful.
“During the course, we visited the Supreme Court and Kingston Crown Court where we sat in on different cases, both Civil and Criminal, to get a better understanding of how the court systems work. We were also able to take part in a Crime Scene Investigation practical where we learnt how to take fingerprints, the different techniques used to reveal blood stains and other key protocols within a Crime Scene Investigator’s role. I also went on some “ride-alongs” with the Met where I saw first-hand some of the different cases they deal with and how things work from a front-line perspective which was very insightful and made me more excited to join.”
