South Thames Colleges Group is extremely proud of our BTEC students’ achievements. Our largest programme, BTEC National Extended Diploma, equivalent to three A Levels, had some incredible results with students achieving Triple Distinction*, equivalent to three A* grades at A Level.
John O'Shea, Executive Principal – Quality and Standards, commented: “We are absolutely delighted with the results across the group for all our students. They have worked incredibly hard with their lecturers, and we are so proud of all of them. Our results continue to be above national benchmarks and there have been incredible results in our largest group of courses (BTECs) with over 2000 students achieving their level 3 qualifications this year. We have 100% pass rates in most final year courses and especially pleased with the 99% pass rate for over 700 students studying art related courses. We had improvements in our A levels with 99% pass and over 70% high grades. The number of students progressing to university is now over 1000 each year. This builds on our excellent results from last year and firmly places us as one of the best FE providers in London."
Peter Mayhew-Smith, Group Principal and CEO, said: "Fantastic results from a brilliant cohort of young people doing their very best; we couldn’t be happier seeing all those ambitions achieved and all those routes into the future started so positively. It’s a real tribute to our amazing staff that we have grown our numbers so significantly and continued to sustain great improvements in our students’ achievements across the board."
“I felt welcomed straight away.”
Pictured is BTEC Applied Science student, Angela, who achieved D*D*D*, equivalent to (3 A* grades at A Level): "The staff made me feel that I belonged and the supportive environment helped me grow in confidence and develop my passion for science. The practical side stood out to me because I knew I wanted to build confidence in the lab and develop real scientific skills, not just memorise content.” After taking a gap year to travel, Angela plans to study for a Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) degree at Aston University: "The course has given me a strong foundation for university and my future career in healthcare.”
“The best years of my life!”
Anderson gained D*D*D*, equal to 3 A* grades at A Level, on the BTEC Travel with Aviation. He has been snapped up by Ryanair as Cabin Crew and credits the course with helping him turn his career ambitions into reality while building his confidence and professional skills: “The course has helped me progress into my future by teaching me about the aviation industry and what it takes to be successful. Before college, I was shy and worried about what to expect, but now I am confident and motivated to reach my goals. In the future, I want to work for long-haul airlines and then build a career in the aviation and travel and tourism industries."
