Art & Design student, Rose, achieved an amazing D*D*D* and a grade B in A Level Business and has accepted a place to study Architecture at Loughborough. She recommends Kingston College “as it is a confidence-building environment with very supportive teachers.”
Why did you choose your course and Kingston College?
I chose to study Art & Design and Business A Level at Kingston College because I felt it offered the right environment for me to develop my artistic and creative skills, along with academic skills. I really like the way Kingston College gave me access to experiment with different design pathways ranging from fashion/textiles to architectural 3D design, to then figure out which was the right fit for me.
What attracted you to studying a BTEC rather than A Levels?
I chose to study a BTEC alongside an A Level because I liked the idea of having balance between practical and academic learning but studying my BTEC allowed me to relieve pressure from end of year exams which improved the quality of my work and suited me the best.
What are your plans after you finish your course?
I am going onto studying a degree in Architecture at Loughborough University.
What have you enjoyed most about your course?
In Art & Design, I enjoyed the freedom to explore my own ideas and develop them into final pieces. I enjoyed working with a range of different materials that I couldn’t use throughout secondary school.
How has your course prepared you for your next step?
My course has provided me with a strong foundation for studying Architecture through developing my understanding of 3D design and model-making. It has taught me how to develop an idea from an initial concept into a tangible outcome, while also helping me develop strong time-management skills. I have also become skilled at documenting each stage of the design process in my sketchbook, which I know will be vital when studying Architecture at university.
Why would you recommend Kingston College to others?
I would recommend studying at Kingston College as it is a confidence-building environment with very supportive teachers and the college provides great facilities to accommodate whatever project you are working on. I also really valued the independence that Kingston College gave me and how I was able to study Business A level alongside it which was exciting and interesting.
