More than 150 Business and Accounting students at Kingston College recently welcomed a special guest speaker from the Bank of England, gaining valuable insights into the world of economics, finance and central banking.

Alice Pugh, representing the Bank of England, delivered an engaging one-hour presentation to students studying BTEC Level 3 Business and T Level Accounting programmes. Alongside sharing details of her own career journey and route into the Bank of England, Alice provided students with a practical understanding of how economic theory is applied in the real world.

The session covered a range of important topics that are directly relevant to students’ studies, including the role of Monetary Policy in managing the UK economy, the Bank of England’s responsibility for maintaining financial stability, and the impact of inflation and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) on businesses and consumers. Students also learned about the production and security features of UK banknotes, the Bank’s gold storage operations, and the growing importance of electronic payment systems in today's economy.

The presentation was particularly timely for Business students who are preparing for their Unit 3: Personal and Business Finance exam in January 2027. The real-world examples and industry insights provided valuable context to many of the topics covered within their course curriculum.

Among the audience were 20 students studying T Level Accounting, who also benefited from learning about the wider financial and economic environment that influences organisations across the UK.

We would like to thank Alice Pugh and the Bank of England for delivering such an informative and inspiring presentation. The session provided students with a unique opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world economic practice and to hear first-hand about careers within one of the UK's most important financial institutions.
