On Thursday 15th October, the ACT theatre at Kingston College welcomed speakers for the TEDx Kingston Upon Thames "Human Amplified" Show. Our Production Arts staff, BTEC Level 3 Technical Theatre students and BTEC Level 2 Creative Media students set up, supported and filmed the sold-out event which was attended by a number of Kingston Business Leaders and the Deputy Mayor Cllr Jane Lim. The six speakers covered a range of thought-provoking issues from the conflict of war, love of food, community policing, cochlear implants, reality TV and conversations from a coffee.
Creative Media students are now editing their video footage that will be shared across the TEDx platform. The TEDx core volunteer team were thrilled with the "amazing venue" that created the perfect setting for TEDx. They were full of praise for our KC students who were supportive from rehearsal to the end of the evening. Tara Majumdar, TEDx curator said: "The theatre has a lovely buzz and it was packed! The students engaged in it all, they worked so hard, it was such a joy to see, thank you.”
TEDx Kingston Upon Thames is an independently organised, not-for-profit community event operated under an official license from TED. Run entirely by a local team of volunteers, the initiative originally began as a small university gathering in 2016 and has grown to celebrate powerful local stories, unique perspectives, and “ideas worth spreading” right in the heart of the community. It would be great to host the event again next year!
