We are celebrating National Engineering Day – highlighting the impact that engineers have in the workplace! From the everyday infrastructure we rely on, to the innovations shaping our future, engineers turn complex problems into real-life solutions. The practical and analytical skills that they demonstrate make our world into a safer, smarter and more sustainable place.
We run Engineering courses for 16-18, as well as Apprenticeships, across South Thames Colleges Group. Dana is an Electronic Engineering Technician apprentice employed through Imperial College’s Technician Apprenticeship Scheme. As part of her Apprenticeship, Dana completes the academic element of her qualification at Kingston College, developing the theoretical knowledge that complements her hands‑on training at Imperial. She says: “Kingston College stood out as an ideal college to study engineering due to its strong reputation in terms of technical training, as well as its well-equipped engineering workshops. The BTEC course offered a structured, qualification-based route that complemented my Apprenticeship. I wanted to gain hands-on practical skills alongside the theory learned in a classroom environment, and I appreciate the fact that a technical concept can be introduced in the classroom and then through my work I can immediately see how that knowledge translates to the real world. After completing this course, I hope to progress on to an HNC/HND before eventually achieving a degree in Electronic Engineering to further specialise.”
