Students studying Level 3 T Level in Digital Support Services Cybersecurity were given valuable insights into the future of artificial intelligence during Induction Week, thanks to guest speakers Sean Whetstone, CISO and Head of Infrastructure and Security at REED, and Sophie Rutter from REED.
The presentation challenged the increasingly common narrative that artificial intelligence will replace people in the workplace. Instead, students were encouraged to view AI as a powerful tool that works alongside humans, with success depending on a balance of technological innovation and uniquely human skills.
Students learned about emerging careers in AI and robotics, the importance of human oversight in AI systems, and the risks of AI hallucinations and misinformation.
A key message of the presentation was that soft skills are becoming more important than ever. Communication, adaptability, emotional intelligence, critical thinking and collaboration were identified as essential qualities for future professionals working in an AI-driven world.
Students were also encouraged to think of AI not as a replacement for human talent, but as a co-worker and creative partner, capable of enhancing productivity and innovation when guided by human judgment and expertise.
