“Kingston College was definitely the right choice,” says BTEC Photography student, Emily, who gained D*D*D and is now studying BA (Hons) Media Production at Sussex University:
Why did you choose your course and Kingston College?
I chose photography as I've always had a passion for capturing unique moments and being creative with a camera, and I wanted to go further with that after studying it at GCSE level. Kingston College was definitely the right choice as I love being surrounded by people with similar creative passions and work styles.
What attracted you to studying a BTEC rather than A Levels?
I chose to do a BTEC as I work a lot better with coursework and problem solving rather than sitting exams, so it was definitely the right option for me.
What are your plans after you finish your course?
I plan to study BA (Hons) Media Production at Sussex University so that I can carry on with photography but also branch out into other creative subjects such as film and sound.
What have you enjoyed most about your course?
I've mostly enjoyed working on projects that are personal to me and developing my ideas as the project goes along, also having help from my friends in my class and involving them in my work too.
Any trips or work experience you’ve particularly enjoyed?
Going to Amsterdam in the second year and visiting lots of photography museums was really inspiring and helped me to come up with more ideas for my work, as well as taking lots of photos of the city.
How has your course prepared you for your next step?
Studying this course has definitely helped me to prepare for my next step as I've created a strong website and portfolio, explored a range of different types of photography and had lots of opportunities and experience in exhibitions.
What would you say to someone thinking about studying your course?
One thing I would say to people thinking about studying photography is you will experiment with so many techniques and find what type of photography you’re most interested in.
