Safeguarding

Level 3 Mental Health & Wellbeing students at Kingston College recently enjoyed a rewarding and memorable visit to Hounslow Urban Farm, organised by Lecturer in Counselling, Mental Health and Psychology, Marta Alvim. The trip marked a celebration of (nearly!) the end of term, while also giving students the opportunity to explore the positive impact of animal therapy on mental wellbeing.

During the visit, students immersed themselves in the farm environment, engaging with a variety of animals and exotic creatures and experiencing first‑hand how this interaction can support relaxation, reduce stress and improve mood. A highlight of the day was the “Tropical Animals” show, where students had the chance to get up close to and even handle a python and a bearded dragon, making the experience both educational and enjoyable.

Reflecting on the trip, Marta said: “We had a wonderful time at the farm and it was fantastic for students to experience the benefits of animal therapy in a fun and engaging way.”

The visit provided a valuable real‑world insight into an alternative approach to supporting mental health, reinforcing students’ understanding of wellbeing practices beyond the classroom, while also offering a well‑earned opportunity to relax and connect as a group.
