Two teachers from South Thames College recently took part in the Teach in Further Education campaign, a national initiative led by the Department for Education to encourage more people to consider teaching careers in the Further Education (FE) sector.
Manjiri, who teaches Digital & IT, and David, a teacher of Electrical Installation, shared their experiences of working in FE and the positive impact teaching has on learners. The campaign highlights the vital role FE teachers play in equipping students with practical, career‑focused skills and supporting progression into employment, apprenticeships and higher education.
As part of the campaign, both teachers spoke about their routes into FE teaching and the rewards of helping students develop confidence, employability skills and industry‑relevant knowledge. Their involvement also helped demonstrate how professionals from a wide range of backgrounds can bring valuable expertise into FE classrooms.
Manjiri also took part in media activity linked to the campaign and was interviewed by The Mirror, where she discussed her experience of teaching in FE and the difference educators can make by supporting learners from diverse backgrounds as they work towards their career goals.
The Teach in Further Education campaign aims to inspire skilled professionals to consider teaching roles across technical and specialist subject areas. By taking part, Manjiri and David have helped raise awareness of FE teaching as a rewarding and impactful career choice.
We are proud to see our staff representing South Thames College and supporting a national campaign that champions the value of Further Education.
