MUSIC students from South Thames College spent an inspiring morning watching a performance and touring behind the scenes at the World Heart Beat Academy.

The registered charity, which is based in Nine Elms next to the American Embassy, was founded by Sahana Gero, MBE in 2009. It has a music academy, concert hall and recording studios.

On the visit, which was organised by the college’s Employability team and Level 3 Music tutors, the students were treated to a live performance by one of the academy’s talented pianists, Ayo Vincent. They also toured the state-of-the-art auditorium, experienced the venue’s cutting edge d&b SoundScape acoustic system and visited its professional standard studio spaces.

The highlight for student George was being invited to play an iconic piano that has been performed on by a host of renowned jazz musicians.

The visit ended with an industry talk covering staging, lighting, PA systems, microphones, projection, and career pathways into the music industry.

Employability Co-ordinator Victor Dada said some of the students had been so impressed by the academy they signed up for guitar and piano lessons. “It was an unforgettable experience for our learners,” he said. “We would like to extend a huge thank you to the team at World Heart Beat Music, with special thanks to Chiara and Anjelo for their warm welcome and support.”
