Year 2 Media Make‑Up students have recently taken part in three bespoke textured‑hair workshops delivered by our talented lecturer, Rhianna. The programme was designed to broaden students’ confidence and competence when working with a wide range of hair type, an essential skill within today’s creative industries.
Throughout the workshops, students explored how to care for different textured hair types, gaining an understanding of moisture needs, maintenance techniques, and specialist products. They also had the opportunity to work with a range of industry‑standard tools and equipment, before putting their learning into practice through a series of braiding activities that allowed them to apply new techniques hands‑on.
The sessions were extremely well received, with learners sharing positive feedback about both the content and the delivery:
- “I found it really interesting and useful; it was a great combination of theory and practical. I felt very supported by Rhianna, and it’s important knowledge that will give us a leg up in the industry.”
- “The sessions gave me so much insight into textured hair - techniques and styling - it’s made me want to explore hairdressing more.”
- “I found it really helpful to learn something new. I hadn’t realised some of the key fundamentals about adding moisture; it was a real learning curve!”
- “The textured hair session with Rhianna exceeded my expectations and kept us engaged.”
- “I found Rhianna very knowledgeable!”
These workshops form part of our commitment to providing inclusive, industry‑relevant training that ensures students are fully prepared for the diverse demands of careers in film, TV, theatre, and fashion.
