Adult learner Christy is studying ESOL Level 1 (MLA) at Merton College, run on behalf of Merton Council. Christy recently completed a London Learner survey about her course and was selected as the winner of an iPad.
"I arrived in London four years ago and felt a bit lost because my English was not very good. I knew it was important for daily life, so I decided to apply to study ESOL at Merton College because it is close to my home.
After I was assessed at the college, I started on an ESOL Entry 1 course and my teacher Dorota was very helpful and patient. She really helped me to improve my English.
Once I had completed that, I moved to an Entry 2 course, where I met fellow students from different countries and made some friends. Studying ESOL has helped me feel more confident when speaking English and now I can communicate better in my daily life. I’m currently studying an ESOL Entry 3 course and in the future, once my daughter starts secondary school, I hope to find a part-time job."
