BTEC in IT students from Kingston College recently showcased their skills during a professional presentation event at REED’s offices in Raynes Park, building on an earlier industry‑led session delivered at the College in March.

The project began when Sean Whetstone (CISO, Head of Infrastructure and Security) and Sophie Rutter from REED visited Kingston College to introduce students to the fast‑paced world of cybersecurity. During the session, students gained valuable insight into topics such as phishing and ethical hacking, before being set a challenging and highly relevant Live Brief.

As part of this employer‑led project, students were invited to REED’s offices to present their solutions, delivering individual presentations on potential cybersecurity threats and how they could be addressed. Presenting in a real business environment was a significant step up, allowing students to apply their knowledge in a professional context and develop their confidence, communication and technical understanding.

Presentations were reviewed by a REED panel, who provided feedback and graded the work in a supportive and engaging way. The experience proved hugely rewarding, with students rising to the challenge and leaving the session feeling confident, motivated and proud of their achievements.

A huge thank you to our partners at REED, particularly Sean Whetstone and the team, for creating such a meaningful and inspiring experience for our students and for continuing to support the development of industry‑ready skills.
