Dana is an Electronic Engineering Technician apprentice employed through Imperial College’s Technician Apprenticeship Scheme. As part of her Apprenticeship, Dana completes the academic element of her qualification at Kingston College, developing the theoretical knowledge that complements her hands‑on training at Imperial.

Why did you choose Kingston College for your course?

Kingston College stood out as an ideal college to study engineering due to its strong reputation in terms of technical training, as well as its well-equipped engineering workshops. Rather than a traditional classroom, the environment we learn in for practicals feels more similar to a professional industry space.

Why did you choose a BTEC?

I chose BTEC because it offered a structured, qualification-based route that complemented my Apprenticeship. I wanted to gain hands-on practical skills alongside the theory learned in a classroom environment, and I appreciate the fact that a technical concept can be introduced in the classroom and then through my work I can immediately see how that knowledge translates to the real world.

What are your plans after finishing the course?

After completing this course, I hope to progress on to an HNC/HND before eventually achieving a degree in Electronic Engineering to further specialise.

What would you say to someone thinking about studying Engineering at Kingston College?

I would encourage anyone thinking of applying to go for it - whether it be in conjunction with an Apprenticeship or to study a BTEC. I’d also stress the importance of staying organised throughout the course and keeping on top of assignments as this is the best way to succeed without eventually feeling overwhelmed.
