A one-day course aimed at helping employers and staff understand the use of AI in the workplace is running at South Thames College in Wandsworth next month.

It is designed to give participants a basic understanding of how AI works – and how it can shape the way we work.

“The pace of change and development in AI is so fast and employers can feel left behind and unsure about its potential and how they can harness the benefits of AI to support their organisation,” said Scott Sherriff, Head of School, Employability.

“We want participants who complete the programme to be more knowledgeable and confident about AI and to be better informed about the ways it can help them in their specific job and their organisation.”

Scott Sherriff, Head of School, Employability said: “The course is ideal for anyone who is thinking about implementing AI within their organisation, especially anyone working in science, engineering, knowledge engineering, finance, or IT services, or who just has an interest in its possibilities.

“It is also suitable for middle and senior managers who are running or putting together teams to develop processes or applications and services that could be powered by AI and will help them understand what it could mean for their own way of working – as well as getting them to consider the risks.”

It will cover a range of topics, including the terminology and general principles of AI, the process of machine learning, the advantages of different types of AI, the challenges associated with an AI project and what the future of AI and humans at work could look like.

“We’ll be helping participants relate these topics to their own workplace or organisation and helping them think about how they can develop their staff and give them the tools to harness AI’s potential in a realistic way,” said Scott.

“The programme will give participants a firm foundation on which to build and may encourage them to move on to related courses such as the Level 3 Certificate in AI Programming with Python and a Level 3/4 Foundation Certificate in Artificial Intelligence.”

The course, which runs on March 20, costs £399, there are no entry requirements to take part and everyone who passes will receive an Essentials Certificate in Artificial Intelligence.
