A Level English students from Kingston College enjoyed an inspiring visit to Shakespeare’s Globe, taking part in a guided tour that brought their studies to life. Exploring the iconic reconstruction on London’s South Bank, students learned about Elizabethan theatre, stagecraft and daily life in Shakespeare’s time.
The tour offered valuable historical context for their current study of Othello, deepening their understanding of how the play would have been performed and received by its original audiences. Students gained insight into the Globe’s unique architecture, performance conventions - and the social and cultural world that shaped Shakespeare’s writing.
The visit sparked thoughtful discussion and gave students a vivid sense of how the play’s themes of jealousy, power and identity resonate both in the Elizabethan era and today.
