Safeguarding

South Thames College is delighted to celebrate yet another outstanding collaboration with the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT), as our two groups of Level 2 Extended Certificate in Health & Social Care learners completed a powerful live brief centred on increasing donor registrations within ethnic minority communities.

Led and organised by Aiman Elsawy from the Employability Team, with support from course tutor Sammy Hassan, students planned and supported two donor-registration events held on 1st and 3rd December 2025 during our Employability Week. Our learners demonstrated exceptional enthusiasm and professionalism. Many pushed beyond their comfort zones, overcoming fears of public speaking, building confidence, and demonstrating impressive teamwork and coordination. Their resilience truly paid off.

Together, the students helped achieve a fantastic total of 46 new donor registrations, including:

  • 22 to the stem cell register
  • 20 to the blood donor register
  • 4 to the organ donor register

These figures represent not only an outstanding contribution to a critical UK health need but also a meaningful real-world impact made by our learners.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Melissa Harvey, Marilyn Channer and Kushanna Stewart from ACLT, whose guidance, encouragement and expertise enriched this experience. Their involvement empowered our students with valuable insight into public health, alongside strengthened transferable skills that will support their future careers.

This partnership continues to highlight the power of education in driving social change. We are incredibly proud of our learners for their dedication and for championing a cause that saves lives.
