Carshalton College proudly celebrates the incredible success of its annual RAG Week (Raising and Giving Week) 2025. This vibrant, student-led initiative brought together creativity, teamwork, and community spirit to support a wide range of charities and causes.
RAG Week is a long-standing tradition across UK colleges and universities, where students organise fun and engaging activities to raise funds for charities. It’s all about Raising and Giving, and this year Carshalton College students truly embodied that ethos.
Highlights from the Week:
Students from across Beauty, Media, Art & Design, Games, Plumbing, Bricklaying, MultiSkills, Carpentry, Motor Vehicle and ESOL, showcased their enthusiasm and innovation through a variety of activities, including:
- Sporting Challenges: Football tournaments, table tennis, and even a strong-arm brick-holding contest.
- Creative Fundraisers: Bake sales, toy raffles, face painting, and squishy ball making, ice-bucket challenge
- Community Engagement: Litter-picking projects and awareness campaigns.
- Fun Competitions: Guess-the-time-to-paint, bingo, and gaming tournaments on PS5.
Each course selected a charity close to their hearts, supporting organisations such asCancer Research UK, Children in Need, Refuge, Barnardo’s, British Heart Foundation, Sickle Cell Awareness, CALM, and Croydon Animal Samaritans, among many others.
Through their combined efforts, students raised over £250 for these incredible causes. Beyond the funds, the week fostered a sense of belonging and purpose, reinforcing Carshalton College’s commitment to community, compassion, and collaboration.
“RAG Week is more than fundraising—it’s about students coming together to make a real difference. Their creativity and dedication this year were outstanding!” (Anna Johnson Head of School)
Carshalton College is already planning next social action project, which is raising money and awareness of Sutton Nightwatch, a homeless charity who run a day centre to help those struggling with homelessness. Students will be collecting essentials items such as food and clothing to support the local community in the run up to Christmas.
