Safeguarding

Level 3 Counselling students at Kingston College participated in a Mental Health Nature Walk designed to support emotional wellbeing, mindfulness and connection. During the walk, students explored Kingston’s riverside, engaged in guided breathing exercises, reflected quietly in nature and shared positive observations with one another.

Spending time outdoors has been shown to reduce stress, improve focus and boost mood. By stepping away from the classroom environment and immersing themselves in fresh air and natural surroundings, students were able to reset, recharge and strengthen their sense of calm – showing our aspiring counsellors how important the outdoors can be for someone’s mental health.

This activity also fostered social connection and a sense of belonging. Walking together, sharing reflections and practicing gratitude helped build empathy and deepen peer relationships. Overall, the nature walk contributed to a healthier, more balanced classroom community by supporting students’ mental wellness, resilience and positive engagement with learning.
