Foundation Learning/SEND students from Carshalton College showcased their culinary creativity by entering the annual`Sammies’ competition, a British Sandwich & Food to Go Industry Award.

As part of the competition, the students crafted their own take on the ‘Yogi Hoagie’, combining ingredients such as avocado, tomatoes, onions, pesto and fried chicken to create a vibrant and flavour-packed entry.

Their efforts impressed the judging panel, who praised both the quality and care that went into the dish. Judge’s comments:

“A great portion size for the price and prepared with care. The chicken is fresh and the coating well‑seasoned and has a lovely texture, and in fact delivered one of the best chicken textures today.”

Although the students did not win, their hard work and skill did not go unnoticed. The judges awarded them a special recognition certificate, celebrating their achievement and commendable contribution to the competition.

Ryan Philips, Curriculum Lead, shared his praise for the group, saying: “I’m very proud of my hospitality team this term.”
