This year’s Christmas Card competition at South Thames College embraced themes of  “Winter Light”, inspiring creativity and innovation among our talented Level 1 and Level 2 Art & Design learners.

What will Christmas look like in 100 years? The Level 2 group designed snow-globe crystal balls with futuristic winter scenes. Learners began by brainstorming their ideas, then working digitally they were able to compose winter scenes which were then creatively illustrated using a mix of digital and hand drawn techniques. Over a two-week period, they transformed initial thumbnail sketches into stunning designs.

The competition culminated in an exciting presentation where learners showcased their final designs to Peter Mayhew-Smith and John O’Shea from the Principal’s Group. After careful consideration, two winners were selected from our UAL Art & Design programmes: Joana (Level 1) and Alexander (Level 2).

Rebecca Goodchild, Team Leader in Art & Design, commented: “The learners worked really hard on their designs and demonstrated exceptional creativity. This competition was a fantastic opportunity for them to apply their learning to a real-world brief and showcase their talent.”

Congratulations to all the learners for their hard work and inspiring designs!
