Kingston College Electrical students had a great start to the half term with an exciting site visit to the impressive new Unilever building which is situated close to the College.

Over two mornings, two groups of Level 2 Electrical students were welcomed by Overbury, the company managing the building’s internal fit-out, who provided excellent hospitality throughout.

The visit began with an engaging overview of how large-scale construction projects come together and how those starting their careers in the electrical sector play a vital role in the process. Students heard from representatives from Overbury as well as two of their subcontractors, Bancroft, the electrical contractor, and Kinly, the AV contractor.

Once the students and staff were fully equipped with PPE, the group headed onto the site to explore a range of floors at various stages of completion. They also had the opportunity to see what will become the server room. At each point, the Bancroft and Overbury teams explained the progress of different phases and how each element connected within the wider project.

Mia Fotheringham, Social Value Co-Ordinator for Overbury said: “We have greatly enjoyed our collaboration with Kingston College, providing their electrical students with valuable on-site experience in our industry. We not only offered practical exposure but also gave the students concrete information and contacts regarding how to apply and secure employment upon completion of their college course.”
