Safeguarding

For the final stage of the BTEC Level 3 Art & Design students' work experience programme, Hayatsu Architects brought in sandboxes for the group to translate their Kingston inspired designs into sand drawings. Eighty students had created an impressive array of artworks that incorporated as many themes from the initial brief as possible, including riverside history, community, leisure and ecology.

Students presented their designs to the panel, made up of Takeshi and Dot from Hayatsu Architects, Chloe from Kingston Council and Julian from Kingston Tour Guides, all who offered fantastic support and advice to our learners on their designs. Students then had the opportunity to interpret their drawings in sand using their fingers, or limited tools, to create definition and depth.

The judging panel have recorded the artworks and will be getting back to us shortly with the finalists! Winning designs will be cast into iron plaques that will be part of the Kingston riverside refurb! We are very excited to see the final outcomes of this brief and what designs are selected for the Spring-Summer instalment.
