Level 3 Certificate in Counselling and Level 3 Mental Health & Wellbeing students at Kingston College have put their skills into practice through creative and insightful “Healthy Relationship Awareness” discussions led by Counselling Lecturer, Marta Alvim.

In the run-up to Valentine’s Day, students took part in an action‑based project designed to deepen their understanding of relationship dynamics and the role counsellors play in supporting individuals and couples. As part of the activity, students created a series of eye‑catching posters promoting positive, respectful and healthy relationships.

To further develop their practical counselling and mental health skills, the students stepped into the role of “relationship counsellors for the day.” Working through a range of realistic case studies, students explored common challenges such as communication breakdown, trust issues, emotional boundaries and conflict resolution. The exercise encouraged them to apply active listening, empathy, questioning techniques and ethical decision-making - key components of these Level 3 programmes.

Marta Alvim praised the students’ commitment to the project, saying that activities like these help bring theory to life:

“It’s important for students to experience what it feels like to support clients through relationship difficulties. The poster campaign allowed them to express their understanding creatively, while the case studies built their confidence in approaching sensitive, real‑world scenarios.”
