Kingston College welcomed a team from NHS England this week as part of a national enquiry into the increasing number of young people who are NEET – Not in Employment, Education or Training. The College was one of the first institutions nominated by the Association of Colleges (AoC) to contribute evidence, recognising the vital insight our staff and students can offer.
During their visit, the NHS team met with practitioners from across the support department to explore the interventions, family work and day‑to‑day strategies used to help learners overcome barriers. They also met with service leaders to discuss support models, historical trends, hidden NEETs, programme development and the data that sits behind this growing national concern.
Peter Mayhew-Smith, Group Principal and CEO, commented: “Everyone involved walked the team through the real‑life experiences faced by young people every day, offering a candid and human view of the challenges that can place learners at risk. We hope the insight gained will help draw attention to these realities - and ultimately contribute to meaningful change in a system that leaves too many young people vulnerable.”
