For work experience this year, Kingston College BTEC Level 3 Fashion, Textiles & Costume cohort have been collaborating with Princess Alice Hospice on a Live Brief that focuses on upcycling fashion items to create unique looks. This project is about raising awareness of the dangers of fast fashion for our environment and how we should all buy better, wear longer, buy less, donate, upcycle and buy reused!
Yesterday 40 large donation bags were delivered by the charity to our Penny School Gallery. Students and PAH staff sorted through the mountain of items to select group- collections for development. Using themes like Jewel, Wildcard and Aquatic, teams are working together to produce two outfits that will appeal to their own age group. These ensembles maybe refashioned, embellished and accessorized. The final pieces will be presented to the charity and some maybe selected to be displayed in their stores.
We wanted to say a huge thank you to Princess Alice Hospice for supporting this brief. Your advice, creative input and commitment to the project has been amazing and we look forward to sharing the final outcomes.
