Carshalton College is proud to celebrate the incredible efforts of its students across Beauty, Sport, Media, Art & Design, Games, Plumbing, Bricklaying, MultiSkills, Carpentry, Motor Vehicle and ESOL courses plus Elmwood nursery staff and of course our students' families who have come together for an inspiring Social Action Project. Led by our dedicated Pastoral Tutor Team, students have raised both money and awareness for Sutton Nightwatch, a local homeless charity that provides vital support to individuals experiencing homelessness in the Sutton area.
In the run-up to Christmas, students demonstrated compassion and community spirit by collecting essential items such as food, toiletries, warm clothing, and other necessities. These donations will help Sutton Nightwatch deliver care packages and services to those most in need, ensuring dignity and comfort during the festive season.
This initiative is part of Carshalton College’s ongoing commitment to Social Action Projects, which form an integral part of every student’s study programme. By engaging in projects that tackle real-world issues, our students not only develop valuable life skills but also foster a sense of belonging and inclusion within the local community.
The lessons delivered by our Pastoral Tutors focused on understanding homelessness—its causes, challenges, and impact. Students then took ownership of the campaign, creating posters and promotional materials to spread the word across the college and to friends and family at home. The response has been overwhelming, with donations pouring in and the generosity of our students leaving everyone truly inspired.
Principal Atoosa Khorram expressed her pride, stating:
“I am immensely proud of what our students have achieved. Their commitment to supporting Sutton Nightwatch and addressing the needs of our local community is a testament to the values we uphold at Carshalton College.”
Through initiatives like this, Carshalton College reaffirms its dedication to working hand-in-hand with the community, creating opportunities for students to make a meaningful difference. Together, we are building a culture of empathy, action, and hope.
