Just before the Christmas break, a group of Kingston College KC Active students were treated to a special ice-skating trip at Guildford Spectrum—a reward that was well and truly earned. The students were carefully selected to attend based on their consistently good behaviour, strong attendance at KC Active sessions both last year and this year, and for showing genuine kindness and inclusion toward other students. The trip was not just about skating; it was to reward positive attitudes and the supportive community the students have helped to build.
A gloomy Tuesday morning in December was soon filled with snacks, thanks Edwin, and songs on the minibus, with all but one student being on time… David, we’re looking at you. From the moment they stepped onto the ice, the chaos began! Ice skating wasn’t going to be as easy as everyone first thought. Thanks to Brett, (KC Active’s very own ice hockey player), and his coaching skills, everyone started to find their feet and have fun.
One of the standout moments came courtesy of Sudhanssu, who brought plenty of smiles as he posed and skated around with the safety snowman. DD also turned heads with an eye-catching outfit for the day, and Joshua and Ryan showed that basketball isn’t the only activity they’re good at. JJ and Joyal impressed everyone with the natural ability to skate, even though this was their first time on the ice and the rink was also graced with some real talent, Eliza teamed up with Diana and showed impressive skill and guidance, with both gliding effortlessly past the others.
Lastly, there was Tyrese, who provided one of the day’s most talked-about highlights—not by falling over, but by somehow managing not to. While many took a tumble or two, Tyrese remained remarkably upright throughout, skating with determination and earning a few laughs and plenty of respect along the way.
The trip to Guildford Spectrum was a perfect way to end the term on a high. It rewarded the students’ hard work, positive behaviour, and supportive attitudes. KC Active couldn’t have asked for a better group to represent them on the ice. Thank you everyone for a great day, there will be more KC Active reward trips in the future, watch this space.
