"Talking to the Area Commander for Kingston Fire Brigade, army personal and police officers about their roles face to face was really cool!" ARCHIE COLES-WITHEY, PUBLIC/PROTECTIVE SERVICES STUDENT
"My favourite part of the course are the practicals - like expeditions to Bushy Park to practice our map reading skills and learning about all the different public services and how they work. I’ve had a lot of different opportunities, like being able to go to the Houses of Parliament. We would have visited Kingston Crown Court but unfortunately due to COVID we couldn’t go in and watch the court case, so we watched a court case online instead. I also spent a week’s work experience at Croydon Fire Station learning about how the fire fighters live, work and help everyone within the community. Also being able to talk to the Area Commander for Kingston Fire Brigade, talking to army personal and police officers about their roles face to face was really cool!"
“Throughout the course we had lots of informative talks from a range of protective service personnel including the Army, Police, Fire Service and Border Force. These talks were engaging and helped me learn more about the different career paths within the different services. When I started the course I was certain I wanted to join the Police but through doing this course I have learnt more about the other services and it has opened up my options. All of my tutors have been very supportive and friendly and some of them were previous serving Police Officers which was really helpful.”
Nadine gained Triple Distinction* on her course, the equivalent to 3 A* at A Level.
Zoey gained Triple Distinction* on her course, equivalent to 3 A* at A Level, and is now studying Criminology and Criminal Justice at University of Leeds. She says: “I had originally started off doing A Levels but decided that a BTEC in Uniformed Protective Services might be better suited to my aspirations of becoming a police officer. I also did not start my BTEC course at Kingston College, I spent my first year at NESCOT College, but I wasn't sure that it was the correct environment for me to fully gain all the support I needed for my education.”
