NCFE Level 2 Diploma - Entry to the Uniformed Services

This course will introduce you to the skills which you will need for your chosen service. It will be a mix of theory and practical sessions and you will have the opportunity to hear from guest speakers from a range of public service backgrounds.

The qualification will develop students skills and personal qualities in preparation for all areas of employment and provide a basis for further study and motivation towards career development. This qualification aims to promote positive attitudes and responses to differences in gender, social and cultural backgrounds and abilities of individuals ensuring you are prepared to enter into your chosen field of employment. It will also give you an opportunity to develop key critical skills such as leadership, teamwork, innovation and entreprise.

Students will be given the opportunity to undertake English/Maths GCSE if a Grade C/4 has not already been achieved.

  • Entry Requirements


    We will invite you to a Meet the Tutor event where you will receive information, advice, and guidance about the course you have applied for. This will be an opportunity for you to gain valuable information about the course and give you the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.

    You will provide a copy of your last school report and / or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other. This is to ensure we can support you to be able to achieve well on the course.

    1 GCSE at grade 4 or above and 3 x GCSE's at 3 or above, or a Level 1 Diploma in a relevant subject.

    Your GCSE profile must include maths and English , or a Functional Skills qualification in maths and English.

    You will provide a copy of your last school report and/or a reference from an employer or relevant professional other to include attendance. This is to ensure we can support to be able to achieve well on the course. Applicants with 85% or below attendance will have been deemed not to have met this criteria. All applicants are given an opportunity to discuss any evidence based mitigating circumstances that may have affected the reference/school report.

  • Course Content


    Students will study a range of units and a variety of assessment methods are used including presentations, role play, practical activities and case studies.

    The units covered may include:

    • World of work - how to get the job you want
    • Physical fitness - reaching the level needed
    • Team work and problem solving
    • Map and compass work
    • Competitive sports
    • Adventurous outdoor activities.

    Students will also be given the opportunity to undertake a period of work placement and students will have the opportunity to visit employers such as the Fire Brigade and the Law Courts.
