Rafay Khan is just one of many outstanding ESOL students who have gone on to fulfil their potential, achieving what he “only imagined was possible” a few short years ago - Rafay is now studying BSc (Hons) Physics at University of Kent with plans to take a Masters in Physics after graduating.

Rafay began his journey at Kingston College in September 2018 studying ESOL Horizons Level 1. The following September Rafay enrolled on our one year full time GCSE course. In 2020 he enrolled on our Access to HE - Science.

Rafay says: “After completing the Access course, I applied to university to study BSc (Hons) Physics and received an offer from University of Kent, my first choice. I am currently in my first year of the degree as I took the Foundation Year last year.”

Asked about his experience during his time at Kingston College, he says: The three years I studied at Kingston College were the most enjoyable and best years of my life. I never thought that I would study a BSc in Physics when I first enrolled.

"I still miss everything about Kingston College, whether it was lessons in a classroom or playing football and badminton in the sports hall. The best thing, which I still miss and will never forget, is the classroom lessons. When I enrolled I could only imagine that I wanted to study Science and wanted to study Physics. My GCSE Physics Lecturer was Pat Sharma - I literally loved the way he taught Physics to us and so decided to study Physics while I was doing my GCSEs. It was challenging for me but after studying at Kingston College, now I can say very confidently that I can do it. A big thanks and many appreciations to all my ESOL teachers, GCSE teachers, Access course teachers, and Kingston College staff members.”

Rafay hopes, after taking a Masters, to take a PhD in Physics and become a lecturer at the university. Given his academic achievements to date and his drive and determination we have no doubt that he will fulfil this ambition.
