Svitlana Bezhan is an adult learner studying ESOL at Merton College.
When I arrived in the UK, I spoke little English. The first months were very difficult and incomprehensible for me, trying to deal with a new language and culture. I then realised that I had to pull myself together and start doing something in order to survive.
After deciding that a college course would help improve my English skills, I enrolled in an ESOL evening course at Merton College. My first day was really interesting, I made new friends of different ages and from different countries.
The college has everything you need to gain knowledge: a large library and excellent teachers who inspire students' desire to learn. Everyone is very friendly and I study with pleasure and confidence thanks to our caring and kind teacher.
My English has improved a lot since I started studying and I might apply for the next level because it is a very good college with fantastic teachers and a warm atmosphere. I am very happy studying here.
