Safeguarding

Our Level 2 Carpentry students recently visited the Quinn London construction site at Thomas's College in Richmond, gaining valuable insight into the restoration of a Grade II listed building. The students had the chance to explore the site and hear directly from contractors about the unique challenges they face when working on heritage buildings and the innovative solutions they employ to overcome them.

The visit offered a real-world perspective on carpentry in conservation projects, sparking enthusiasm among the group. Two of our students have been invited back for work experience over the Easter break, working alongside Quinn London’s subcontractor, YY Security.

There is potential for these placements to lead to Apprenticeship opportunities.

One student shared their thoughts on the experience:

“Thanks so much for the opportunity to see the inner workings of site carpentry in a Grade II listed building. From levelling floors to structuring in-between spaces and blending old features with a new defined look—it was truly fascinating. We were all inspired by the construction team’s stories and the possibilities for our future careers.”

We look forward to returning to the site in the future to see the next stage of progress!
