From enchanting fairytale braids to bold, literary-inspired avant-garde styles, Hairdressing and Barbering students’ creativity knew no bounds. The Kingston College students demonstrated their incredible skills in an annual competition with this year’s theme of World Book Day.
Inspired by classic and modern literature, students designed stunning looks based on their favourite books, showcasing both their technical skills and artistic vision. We saw a range of characters including those from The Hungry Caterpillar, Charlotte’s Web, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and the Hunger Games.
The hairdressing salon was awash with creativity as the students calmly worked their magic, culminating in a runway show that looked straight from a fairytale, in front of judges and a packed live audience in the theatre - where the winners were announced and celebrated.
The students showed incredible inventiveness and imagination with their careful research and had spent weeks gathering ideas, images and inspiration with hours of time, effort and practice put into the final creations. Each student produced a detailed, meticulous mood board showcasing their ideas from the book that they had chosen and which will go towards their final grade.
As always, the tutors got into the spirit and came dressed up as Mr Men!
Thank you to the judges, our Technical Theatre students who supported – but most of all huge congratulations to all the Hairdressing and Barbering students for their hard work and imagination - your efforts were spectacular!
