Beauty Therapy students from Carshalton College recently showcased their skills at the Merton Civic Centre’s Staff Wellbeing Event, where they were invited to run a pop-up Nail Bar.

The event proved a huge success, with council staff queuing throughout the day to enjoy relaxing hand massages and nail treatments delivered by our talented students.

Stepping outside the familiar setting of the College salon, the students gained valuable experience in a real-world environment. They confidently engaged with clients, explained various treatments from the College's salon therapy menu, and demonstrated a high level of professionalism. Many noted the experience helped boost their confidence and enhanced their communication skills.

One council staff member commented:

“My therapist was very attentive; she took her time and was very friendly. My nails turned out nicely and I enjoyed the hand massage. A great experience, well done.”

Thanks to the success of the event, organisers have expressed their desire to continue working with Carshalton College. Opportunities for further work experience have been offered, along with the use of space and staff volunteers to support future student assessments in areas such as make-up, nails, and massage.

This collaboration highlights the valuable role of community partnerships in helping students gain meaningful, career-enhancing experience.
