Level 2 & 3 Art & Design students have been commissioned to produce artwork for Frylands Wood Scout Outdoor Centre as part of their vocational and work experience studies.
This collaboration has given the students the chance to take part in a work-based learning opportunity of working together on a community-based project set by the Frylands Wood staff Debbie Burney and Amber Cox.
Working to the specifications from their clients, the students have produced illustrated wildlife information boards for the woodland trails and animal relief plaques for the visually impaired visitors.
The students have created individual pieces of work that are a direct response to the ‘live brief’, whilst also incorporating their own art practice.
Amber Cox, Activity Instructor of Frylands Wood said:
“I just wanted to say thank you for letting me come to the college and meet the students. The artwork is fantastic and I am really looking forward to displaying it on site.”
In appreciation for their hard work the students have been invited to visit Frylands Wood to see their work on display throughout the woodland and to take part in a day full of team activities such as archery, beekeeping and bushcraft.
Previous to this year the art students were commissioned by Mrs Burney’s Bee Club, based at Frylands Wood to produce illustrated beekeeping boards as teaching aids for the courses taught there which were greatly appreciated.
